My second night here, Daniel (my host/boss — as seen in the bottom picture on the right) and I went to a bar around the corner from his house to watch the Netherlands vs. Germany game with some friends of his. This was a BIG DEAL, as Germany is their Arch Rival (I’m pretty sure Germany is everyone’s arch rival) and this game would determine whether or not they made it to the Euro 2012 finals (I think? Or maybe semi-finals? Some kind of finals for some kind of tournament). Anyway, I wore orange and yelled like I cared and it was all a lot of fun. Holland lost 2-1, unfortunately — hence the sad faces in the picture above — but to my untrained eye the Germans seemed to be a much better team dirty cheating bastards. But apparently there is still hope, as due to crazy sports logic if the Netherlands beats Portugal tonight AND wins by two or more goals AND Germany beats Denmark AND Denmark doesn’t score any points, Holland is still totally in the game. So, you know, fingers crossed.
